Counting down

It really hit me earlier today that the kid will be here in less than a month. (About 26 days according to the countdown clock ... if she's on time that is.)

I got to thinking about all the things I need to get done around the house before she comes. Cleaning, painting, yard work ... And then I started thinking about all the things I need to get done at work. (I won't bore you with those details - just be assured that they are numerous and probably unrealistic.)

Then I got to thinking about the fact that my daughter will actually be here ... and that I don't really care about the rest of it.

Housework will get done. The newspaper will publish. I'm just really looking forward to getting to finally meet my kid.

(I apologize for the lack of humor - or what I try to pass off as humor - in this post. I assure you it will not happen again.)

Yeah, and it's just starting to hit me that two of my favorite people in the world - my little brother and his beautiful wife who also just happens to be one of the best friends a girl could have - are going to be parents. I worry about a lot of things in this world, from big picture stuff like the state of the economy and terrorists and whether or not the water supply is sustainable, to little picture stuff like will I ever feel like a real grown up, is there a Mr. Right out ther for me and will spring thaw arrive here early enough to save me from insanity. But one thing I do not worry about is whether Mike and Rae Rice will be great parents. One thing I know for sure is they have and endless supply of love, humor and patience (well, Rae has patience) for my baby niece. I can't wait to hold her. And yes, I actually mean that. I love you guys.
